The district shares fliers from outside organizations through the online backpack. The district only shares fliers from local non-profit community organizations which are hosting events that might be of interest to CCSD 89 students or their families.
The district does not post commercial fliers and reserves the right to reject any fliers. To have your organization's flier considered, email info@ccsd89.org.

Glenbard South Future Freshmen Activity Night (April 16)
Future Freshmen Activity Night, Wednesday, April 16. Opportunity to meet coaches and sponsors from all sports and activities offered. 6:45 – 8:15 p.m.

Free preschool concert with Jim Gill (April 17)
All CCSD 89 preschool students and families are invited to a free family sing-along concert with musician Jim Gill from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 17. Families can sing, clap, and dance together as Gill plays family-friendly songs.

Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative developmental screening (April 17, May 15)
Learn how your child is growing and developing. Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative will be offering free developmental screenings on Thursday, April 17, at Glenside Public Library and Thursday, May 15, at Glen Ellyn Public Library, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Families will receive activity ideas to encourage their children's development at home. If any concerns are identified, resources will be provided on further assessment or next steps.
This does not replace the preschool screening at CCSD 89.

GECRC Literary Fundraiser with author Catherine Newman (April 24)
The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center (GECRC) welcomes New York Times best-selling author Catherine Newman to its annual Literary Event Fundraiser, on Thursday, April 24 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton.
Proceeds will support GECRC’s efforts to empower more than 300 under-resourced children living in the greater Glen Ellyn community to realize their full potential through after-school and summer tutoring and mentoring programs.
Newman is also the author of We All Want Impossible Things; the memoirs Waiting for Birdy and Catastrophic Happiness; the middle-grade novel One Mixed-Up Night; and the bestselling kids’ life-skills books How to Be a Person and What Can I Say?

Fun with Cardboard family art (May 3)
Saturday, May 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at PRC, 201 S. Naperville Rd in Wheaton. Bring the family to the art studio to learn how to make masks and other flat sculptures out of recyclable cardboard. Materials are provided, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet-up for caregivers of neurodivergent children (Wednesdays)
7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Wheaton Public Library. Parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children of all ages are welcome to join an open and supportive environment to share experiences, challenges, achievements, and resources. Facilitated by and in partnership with staff members from North Shore Pediatric Therapy. This program is for adults only; no childcare will be provided.

People's Resource Center literacy classes
Conversation Class. Practice speaking English in a small-group setting weekly. These classes are offered online and in person based on your English level.
Practical English Class. These classes are focused on reading and writing in English while also practicing speaking. Classes are offered in person.
One-on-One Tutoring Sessions. Need help with GED, citizenship, or ESL? You can work with a tutor to achieve your goals.

Butterfield Park District Bullfrogs swim team (summer)
Butterfield Park District Bullfrogs Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. The Bullfrogs coaching staff focuses on building swimmer skills, teamwork, enjoyment of the sport, and participation in competitive swimming. B. R. Ryall Teen Center
The B. R. Ryall YMCA in Glen Ellyn recently opened a new Teen Center designed as an after-school hangout location for middle- and high-school students. The Teen Center is open 3:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Support group for families of children with autism
Wheaton Library has a support group for parents of children with autism that meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month, in person at the library. CCSD 89 preschool developmental screenings
Community Consolidated School District 89 conducts developmental screening periodically during the school year for children from the age of 2 years 10 months through 5 years old. The screening includes the use of the Ages & Stages Questionnaire 3rd Ed., Ages & Stages: Social-Emotional 2nd Ed., and play-based assessment of developmental skills. Community Partners Play Date at Wheaton library (monthly)
The Community Partners Play Date is a time for families with children ages 0-5 to enjoy the library and learn about resources in their community. This will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the last Friday of each month at Wheaton Public Library. The first play date will be Friday, January 26.
