Children can get free dental screenings and a free oral healthcare kit at the “Give Kids a Smile Day” on Friday, February 28. Dental screenings are available to all school-age children at the DuPage County Health Department, 111 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. For questions or to make an appointment, call (630) 221-7776. 

The DuPage County Health Department and DuPage Health Coalition are partnering to distribute free flu vaccine vouchers to uninsured and low-income individuals. The free-flu-vaccine voucher is valid until February 28 at any Jewel-Osco within DuPage County.  No appointment or prescription is needed, but supplies are limited.  Uninsured residents can bring a copy of the voucher and proof of residency with them to receive the vaccine.

How to get the flu shot:

1. Bring the flier to your local Jewel-Osco. You can either print the flyer or show it on your phone.

2. Show the pharmacist your Access DuPage card or proof of DuPage County residency, along with the flier.

Historian and author Kit Sergeant presents her program, “World War II Women Spies”, at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street, on Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m.  The Glen Ellyn Historical Society sponsors this program.

Nancy Wake and Marie-Madeleine Fourcade guided hundreds of French Resistance agents through treacherous landscape during wartime France while managing to avoid the Gestapo.  Sergeant describes their adventures during this presentation.

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society presents historian and author Laurie Russell in a program about “The Queen of Chicago”: Bertha Honore’ Palmer. Glen Ellyn History Center at 800 N. Save the date! The Music Boosters and music teachers are excited to welcome the community to the annual Music Café on Saturday, April 12, at Glen Crest. Guests will enjoy a light breakfast while listening to performances from band, chorus, and orchestra students. The Music Café raises money for supplies and experiences for music students in all five schools. 

All CCSD 89 preschool students and families are invited to a free family sing-along concert with musician Jim Gill from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 17. Families can sing, clap, and dance together as Gill plays family-friendly songs.

The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center (GECRC) welcomes New York Times best-selling author Catherine Newman to its annual Literary Event Fundraiser, on Thursday, April 24 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton.

Proceeds will support GECRC’s efforts to empower more than 300 under-resourced children living in the greater Glen Ellyn community to realize their full potential through after-school and summer tutoring and mentoring programs.

Newman is also the author of We All Want Impossible Things; the memoirs Waiting for Birdy and Catastrophic Happiness; the middle-grade novel One Mixed-Up Night; and the bestselling kids’ life-skills books How to Be a Person and What Can I Say?

Butterfield Park District Bullfrogs Swim Team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. The Bullfrogs coaching staff focuses on building swimmer skills, teamwork, enjoyment of the sport, and participation in competitive swimming. The Community Partners Play Date is a time for families with children ages 0-5 to enjoy the library and learn about resources in their community. This will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the last Friday of each month at Wheaton Public Library. The first play date will be Friday, January 26.

It is not always easy to visit a food pantry, especially if it is your first time. People's Resource Center is launching a free online, weekly ordering option that will make your visit easier.
