Student fundraisers, letters of support, and donations: how you can help during the pandemic
Glen Crest students are raising funds to support local non-profit organizations that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. You can donate to the Glen Crest student fundraiser at: www.gofundme.com/f/gc-spreads-love-not-germs
Students in the Glen Crest Builders Club voted to raise funds for the DuPage Foundation’s COVID-19 Fund, which provides grants to local non-profit organizations that have not been able to carry out normal fundraising operations. You can learn more about the DuPage Foundation COVID-19 fund here: https://dupagefoundation.org/covid-19-resources/covid-19.html
Students are asking families to make a donation of $10 or more. Students are also asking people to use the hashtag #GCspreadslovenotgerms on social media to encourage others to donate. In the social media post, students would like donors to share what they are thankful for, what they are doing during the pandemic, or how they’re spreading kindness.
The students' goal is to raise $2,500 for the DuPage Foundation.
Support local families affected
You can make a donation to directly support Community Consolidated School District 89 families who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. All donations to the District 89 PEP Fund from April 14 until buildings re-open will be designated to support CCSD 89 families who need assistance with food or other essential items. You can donate here: https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/PEP-District-89-Fund/ScdiwXJ?p=yes
Any donations will be used to purchase gift cards from Walmart, Target, Jewel, and Aldi to help CCSD 89 families who need food or other assistance during the pandemic. The cards will be distributed by CCSD 89 social workers.
The Partnership for Educational Progress is a charitable foundation that works with Glenbard School District 87 and its feeder elementary districts to provide enrichment opportunities for all students. Donations are tax-deductible.
Thank a healthcare worker
You can show your gratitude for hospital or emergency workers by sending a digital picture or letter to workers at Good Samaritan Advocate Health Care in Downers Grove. The hospital is not accepting physical letters at this time, but letters or drawings sent to info@ccsd89.org will be shared with nurses and doctors at the hospital.
Donate blood on May 6 at Glen Crest
There is a critical need for blood at this time, as blood supplies are low. Glen Crest Middle School will host a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, whether or not school buildings have re-opened. The blood drive will follow proper social distancing guidelines to allow people to safely donate blood. You can sign up to be part of the May 6 blood drive here: https://donate.illinois.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/5579546
