March 16: Remote learning to begin Tuesday in CCSD 89
CCSD 89 families:
On Tuesday, remote learning will begin for all students in Community Consolidated School District 89. Teachers will be contacting you with more information about assignments and expectations.
The district has created a remote-learning FAQ to answer some of the questions you may have as we adjust to this new learning environment. You can see the FAQ here: http://bit.ly/2IQ0RQJ
Parents are not expected to deliver five hours of daily education to their students. Student stamina will vary based on age and learning style. Rather than counting the minutes that students spend on work, do your best to make sure students are engaged in the learning activities. If you need additional support or more work, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Our counselors and social workers have created an at-home schedule that might help you and your students maintain some normalcy during these unusual times. You can view the schedule here: http://bit.ly/33plmNO
The latest remote-learning news will continue to be posted at www.ccsd89.org/COVID as well as the district's website (www.ccsd89.org), Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CCSD89) and Twitter account (@CCSD89). We will continue to send any urgent news to families via email.
Our buildings
Throughout school closures, administrators will be in the buildings during school hours so that students can pick up materials while practicing safe social distancing.
Student assignments
Student work will be available by 8:30 a.m. each day. Students in grades 6 - 8 will access assignments via Google Classroom. Students in preschool through fifth grade will be contacted by the teacher through email, and/or a Google Classroom by 8:30 a.m. each day. Individual teachers will share information about how to turn in work.
If you do not have internet access, you will be able to pick up paper copies at the school building. If you do not have internet and cannot go to the school building, please contact your classroom teacher, info@ccsd89.org or (630) 545-3581.
Teachers will continue to develop remote-learning lessons throughout the closure. You can find out more information about the remote-learning FAQ found here: http://bit.ly/2IQ0RQJ
Medications
If your student has medications at school that they need, they can be picked up during regular school hours at the building.
IEP and 540 planning meetings
Students with IEPs will continue to receive services via phone and email. All scheduled 504 and IEP meetings will be held in person at the scheduled building and time.
Phone conferencing is available for parents who would prefer not to come in person. Parents can contact the building principal to let them know. Contact your case manager directly with further questions.
Food
Any CCSD 89 families that need food will be able to pick up a meal and a snack at Glen Crest Middle School or Briar Glen Elementary School starting Wednesday. Food will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Families will be able to drive up to either school and receive food while still in their car. We will continue to communicate about options for picking up food.
If you cannot pick up food or you have other questions, contact Lauren Parker at lparker@ccsd89.org or (630) 545-3507.
School calendar
Spring break will remain March 30 through April 3. There will be no assignments during that time. March 16 through March 27 are considered an 'Act of God' by the state of Illinois - a technical term that means those days will not be made up at the end of the year. At this time, the school year is still scheduled to end on May 20. However, this is a fluid process. We will communicate any changes as soon as possible.
Registration
Kindergarten and new student registration, scheduled for March 23 through March 25, will be rescheduled. We will share more information about registration at a later date.
Voting at Glen Crest
At this time, we believe Glen Crest will remain open as a polling place on Tuesday. If the state makes a change to that policy, it will be shared on the district's website and social media channels.
Questions
If you have further questions, please reach out to our staff. We are available to support your students.
